Dr Melissa Card
With a rich background in both clinical practice and academic leadership, I bring a unique blend of expertise to my work as a psychologist in Ontario. I earned my MA in Clinical Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, followed by a Doctorate from the University of Johannesburg. After over a decade of clinical practice in South Africa, I transitioned to Ontario and became registered with the College of Psychologists and Behavior Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO).
During my time in South Africa, I gained specialized experience working with adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders at Tara Hospital, followed by several years at Helen Joseph Hospital, where I contributed to the Nephrology, Oncology, and Psychiatry departments. I also had the privilege of becoming an associate professor and Head of the Psychology Department at the University of Johannesburg, teaching and mentoring students while conducting research in the areas of public mental health, eating disorders, and psychodynamic theory.
My journey in South Africa has shaped my approach to psychology, enabling me to merge academic rigor with hands-on clinical expertise. My areas of special interest include eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, perinatal mental health, grief and loss.
I believe in a collaborative approach, tailoring evidence-based treatments to meet your needs. With a deep respect for diversity, I am committed to providing compassionate care that empowers you to overcome life’s challenges with resilience and confidence. Whether you're navigating complex emotions, stress, or trauma; I aim to create a supportive space where growth, empowerment and change are possible.
